DANCE TIPS AND SUGGESTIONS FOR THE BRIDE & GROOM

Brides and Grooms-to-be: here, find some helpful dance tips and suggestions to help prepare you for your WEDDING DANCE, and to ensure your first dance as husband and wife will be memorable-not only for you, but for your guests and family as well.

SELECT A SONG - Visit our studio and see our unique wedding song list! Choose a song that you enjoy and that feels special to you. It should have an easy beat that you feel comfortable with and enjoy moving to. If you'd like a slow dance, try a Foxtrot or a Waltz. If you're looking for an upbeat feel, you might choose Swing, Salsa-even Tango! If you're not sure where to begin, or would like some suggestions, talk with one of our dance instructors. They'll be more than happy to help you select the right style.

ONCE YOU'VE DECIDED - One of our professional dance instructors will take the time to work with you and create something original. Your dance could be whatever you choose! Looking for something classic? We'll find the right balance of traditional choreography and flair to create a timeless dance. Feeling something more theatrical? Your teacher will create something fun and unique that shows off your individual personality. Whatever your style, you'll have a dance that truly celebrates the event.

PRACTICE YOUR DANCE - Enjoy the process as much as the final event! Get comfortable with the steps, timing, and rhythm of your song. Visit our studio as often as you'd like to polish and practice your moves! Our sound system is easy to access and offers lots of options. We offer such a broad selection of music to practice to, you'll never find yourself bored of the song collection.

Maybe this is a chance for you to step a little outside of your comfort zone. Maybe, you've entertained the thought of performing at your wedding, or just showing off with a few special moves. Either way, the preparation should be just as fun as the event itself-and at Dance Fever Studio, it will be. With the help of our experienced instructors, you'll be thrilled that you went for it!

And, who knows? Chances are, you'll find yourself wanting to keep dancing long after the wedding day is over!

That Magical Moment: The First Wedding Dance

The lights are dimmed and the first romantic strains of Andy Williams crooning “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” begin to flow through the ballroom. It’s a magical moment. For the first time, the newly married couple are introduced to friends and family gathered to celebrate the momentous occasion, and so begins their first dance together as husband and wife.

This is the moment that has caused many nervous grooms to have sweaty palms, and brides to fervently wish they had insisted on those ballroom dance lessons - or be totally glad that they did! All eyes are on the guests of honor as they begin to move together in their first wedding dance. Everyone is taking in the beauty of the bride’s glorious dress and absorbing the romance of the moment. This is the timeless tradition of “opening the ball”, when the hosts or honored guests for a few moments are the only participants on the dance floor, and their dance becomes the signal for the guests to join them in celebrating the occasion.

First Dance

At this time, the bride and groom can choose to dance the entire song by themselves, or have the band leader invite the rest of the bridal party up for the second half of the song. Or you can go with the “East Coast Style” of reception planning, when the bride and groom dance the first dance together as they enter the reception and are introduced for the first time with their married names, then dinner is served to the guests, and the remainder of the wedding dancing commences when dinner and the wedding toasts are completed.

Regardless of the surrounding traditions of your particular wedding theme or style, your first dance as husband and wife is a special event that will be remembered for many years to come. It’s a spectacular moment for your guests to witness, and can be a truly lovely way to bring an air of elegance to your joyous occasion. Just remember those romantic images of Prince William and his bride, Kate, snuggling cheek to cheek as they swayed to a cover of Elton John’s “Your Song.” These are the kinds of moments you treasure for a lifetime, and you certainly don’t have to be a princess to enjoy the romance and pleasure of your first wedding dance. Besides, every bride is a princess at her own wedding, right?

A wedding is the kind of special day where you want everything to be perfect, and your first wedding dance is another opportunity to impress your friends and family with your elegance, style and grace. The type of dancing you choose to perform reflects the feelings that you share, and whatever your musical tastes may be, nothing is going to say “Just married” like that first wedding dance.

First Wedding DanceTraditionally, the first wedding dance has been the flowingly graceful and romantic Waltz. However, contemporary wedding styles tend to be a little less formal than the Waltz, and one of the most common dances learned by wedding couples is the foxtrot. For a more relaxed and casual style, swing dancing is a favorite among active and flirty couples, and easy to learn in a short amount of time.

For an event so momentous, many couples are choosing to enroll in wedding dance lessons with their local dance studio or professional ballroom dance instructor. And with the recent advent of popular reality television series such as “Dancing With The Stars”, ballroom style dance lessons are more popular than ever before. Couples who wish to make a good impression take advantage of “first dance” lessons from professional dance instructors and choreographers. From the waltz to the foxtrot, the merengue to the swing, bridal couples learn how to look great on the dance floor and dazzle their guests. Couples also acquire a skill together that they’ll be able to use for the rest of their lives.

Many modern wedding plans include a choreographed wedding party dance routine, such as wedding plans for comedienne and co-host on “The View”, Sherri Shepherd.  Sherri recently held a wedding dance rehearsal for her wedding party where her celebrity bridesmaids (including Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Neicy Nash) learned a choreographed bridesmaids dance routine.

Whether you choose to participate in group ballroom dance classes consisting of four or five couples, or you prefer private wedding dance lessons, you can truly take advantage of a fine opportunity to make your wedding dance sparkle as you learn a special dance for your wedding day. Dream through a romantic waltz, or spice it up with a lively rumba, as long as you make sure your first wedding dance provides the romance and magic you’ve always wanted when you dreamed up your own special day.
